A body that has no end
Drawing a dragon as a closed loop solves the oldest problem in creature illustration: where to stop. The body becomes the pattern rather than sitting inside one.
Scale texture
Up close the surface is scales, which gives the print a second layer of repeat inside the first. That is what keeps a single large motif from going flat.
