Shipibo Kené
Kené is the geometric line work of the Shipibo-Conibo people of the Peruvian Amazon — interlocking paths that the tradition understands as song made visible. Our own drawing in that language runs across thirty-four pieces, including button up shirts.
What kené actually is
In Shipibo practice the designs are not decoration. They are tied to icaro, the sung medicine of the tradition, and a pattern is read the way a score is read. The lines never end and never cross at random.
Ours, and why we say so
The Shipibo-Conibo are a living people and kené is theirs. What we print is our own drawing made in the logic of that tradition, not a reproduction of anyone's work. We think that distinction matters enough to put it in writing.
What it comes on
Short and long sleeve button up shirts in black, white and light grey, shirts in blue, bra tops and paper wallets. Continuous line work suits a shirt, where it can run across panels uninterrupted.
