Budhi
The laughing Buddha, drawn with affection and repeated across a small range of three pieces, including t-shirts.
Budai, not the Buddha
The round laughing figure is Budai, a Chinese monk from the tenth century, later folded into the Buddhist tradition as a figure of contentment. He is not the historical Buddha, though almost everyone calls him that.
Drawn warm
A laughing figure has to actually look like it is laughing, which is harder in line work than it sounds. Ours leans folk rather than devotional, on purpose.
What it comes on
T-shirts and accessories — three pieces in all, the smallest range in the shop.
